| Pages From A Notebook | |||||

These collages are culled from a notebook on which I worked every night between November of 1994 and June of 1995. The pages were done as automatically as possible, with little or no thought as to what went therein. Pictures cut from magazines, automatic drawings and writings, dream fragments, cut-ups and diagrams were all included with the one very strict rule that no conscious rationality was to dictate any aspect of the process of creating the page. Throughout the creation of the notebook I was beset with vast amounts of absurd synchronicities that seemed to tie into the collages in some very surprising ways. Much of the events that seemed to tie into the notebook bore a striking similarity to some of the effects William S Burroughs attributed to his cut up experiments. Burroughs always maintained that cutting up text revealed the essential meaning behind the words themselves and allowed the future to leak through. Looking back over the pages, I find meaning in many of them that could not possibly have had any relevance at the time that I created them. The titles shown above the images are new. |
